Elephants in Suspension WHITE SERIES.

2024

Elephants in Suspension is a pictorial series in which the figure of the elephant is displaced from its usual weight to inhabit a state of flotation and pause.

Set against predominantly luminous, open, almost silent backgrounds, the works are constructed as material surfaces that incorporate fragments, layers, and elements adhered to the canvas, operating in a collage-like manner. Here, white does not function as a neutral background, but as an active field: a space of breathing and distance, where form is sharply defined and emptiness acquires density.

The elephants do not float, they rest. Each figure is supported by platforms, bases, or grounds that emerge from the pictorial plane like precipices or suspended structures. At this edge, the elephant retains its symbolic power: a large, strong body capable of bearing weight. Yet the hardened skin that protects it also encloses a sensitive core. Strength appears here in dialogue with exposure, and stability with risk.

The series thus constructs an image of precarious support: bodies that endure not through absolute solidity, but through the capacity to remain standing even when the ground seems reduced to a minimum.
